Academic background
Dr. J. L. Capelo obtained his degree in Chemistry by the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2002 by the Vigo University, Spain, where he was assistant to staff (grant) from 1994 to 1997 and from 1998 to 1999; and associated professor (Lecturer) from 1999 to 2002. He was honored with the University of Vigo’s award to the best Doctoral Thesis defended in 2002 in the Faculty of Chemistry. In February 2002, he moved to IST, Technical University of Lisbon, as a postdoctoral researcher. In December 2004, he became Research Fellow at REQUIMTE (www.requimte.pt), at the Chemistry Department of the New University of Lisbon, and in 2006 he was invited as senior lecturer in the same institution. Begging 2009 Dr. Capelo moved as Research Fellow to the University of Vigo, Physical Chemistry Department (Spain). Since 2012 Dr. Capelo is located as Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, REQUIMTE - Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL), Moonte de Caparica, Portugal.

His research is mainly focused in the development of new sample treatments for proteomics, analytical chemistry and bio-analytical chemistry. Briefly, he is involved in the development of new approaches for in-gel and in-solution protein identification throughout ultra-fast protein digestion and MALDI Imaging.
Recently he was involved in a collaboration for the development of new strategies for tissue sample preparation prior Mass Spectrometry Imaging of endometriosis tissues, prostate cancer and tissues. His PhD was supervised by Dr. José Luis Capelo (University of Vigo), Prof. José Moura (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal), Dr. Garry Corthals (Turky Centre for Biotecnology, University of Turku, Finland). Dr. Santos was a postdoctoral.
Dr. Santos was a postdoctoral fellow at Universidade de Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Portugal) and in the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, FCT-REQUIMTE (Portugal).
Actually Dr. Santos is an IF Researcher working in Nano-PhosphoProteomics at the BIOSCOPE group LAQV-REQUIMTE, being responsible for the Laboratory for Biological Mass Spectrometry & Functional Associations of Post-Translational Modifications at the Labs 011- 013.

Her research was focused on desing and development of new mesoporous silica nanoparticles for drug delivery. All these New Emissive Nano and Molecular Devices are integrated into Proteomics plattforms such as MALDI-TOF-MS and ESI MS-MS as new chelating matrices for biomedical analysis.
E.Oliveira was achieved with the Portuguese Prize from “Fundaçao Calouste Gulbenkian, Portugal in Creativity and Quality in the Research Activity 2008. Her PhD was supervised by Dr. Carlos Lodeiro (University of Vigo, Spain); Dr. Susana S. Costa (University of Minho, Portugal); Prof. Isabel Moura (University NOVA of Lisbon, Portugal).
In 2015 Dr. Oliveira was awarded with the Woman Medal Loreal UNESCO in Portugal. Her postdoc period between 2011-2018 was done in The University NOVA of Lisbon (Portugal), The University of Vigo (Spain), the University Autonomous of Barcelona

Graduated in Chemistry by the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2010. His PhD research was focused on synthesis of new molecular fluorescence devices for MALDI-TOF-MS, metals, protein and biomarkers detection, and Synthesis and Applications of Smart Nanoparticles (Gold, Magnetite and Silica) for PROTEOMICS applications. Dr. Fernandez defended in 2012 his PhD supervised by Dr. Jose Luis Capelo and Dr. Cristina Nuñez-Glez in the University of Vigo (Spain).
Dr. Fernández-Lodeiro was a Postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Química at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alcindo A. Dos Santos during 2013-2104 and in the LAQV and UCIBIO-REQUIMTE, FCT-UNL, at the BIOSCOPE group under the supervision of Prod. Dr. Jose Luis Capelo, and the co-supervision of Prof. Carlos Lodeiro.
Actually he is an Junior Researcher in the LAQV-REQUIMTE integrated in the BIOSCOPE Group. He is responsible for the Laboratory of New Green Methodologies applied to the Design and Synthesis of Metallic Nanoparticles at the Lab 308
His research is focussed on the synthesis of new smart metallic functionalized nanoparticles for biomedical and environmental applications, development of new green synthetic routes with green materials, as well as in the development of new clean and safe synthetic methods using cheap commercial raw materials.

His actual research is mainly focused on the synthesis and applications of new fluorescent probes and nanoparticles for targeting and drug delivery. His research on silver and gold nanoparticles, gold nanorods, and platinum nanoparticles are being used in drup delivery, antibacterial properties, proteomics and catalysis.

Actually, his research is mainly focused on the synthesis and applications of new fluorescent Platinum(II) based complexes with liquid crystal properties for application as new dyes, biomedicine devices, temperature nanosensors, anion sensors, cation sensors etc. His Postdoc is supervised by Dr. Carlos Lodeiro Espiño (Universidade NOVA of Lisbon) at the BIOSCOPE Group, LAQV-REQUIMTE, Chemistry Department, FCT-UNLPortugal) and is focused on Platinum(II) and Platinum(IV) emissive materials for multifunctional applications.
